This 2019 Energy Exchange recorded session provides an overview of making the business case for resilience projects. Speakers from the U.S. Navy, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory discuss how the business case is defined by different agencies and includes methods of developing it in different mission environments. Both methodologies and case studies will be presented.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this training, attendees will understand:

  • What is meant by "energy system resilience;"
  • Be able to describe an electrical microgrid;
  • How to determine if agency sites should pursue energy system resilience and, if so, how to justify it; and
  • Learn about available financing options, including assessing benefits of investing in resilience and providing talking points to support associated investment.
